This is a Noh theatre with a long and distinguished tradition that has been handed down in Ise for 450 years, descended from the Wayaza, one of the three Ise theatres that originated during the Sengoku period.
The Waya style Kagura is not found in other "Okina Mai" dances and retains the remnants of the Ise Sanza.
For this reason, "Okina" is known as the "Isshiki Okina Dance" and has been designated a National Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
