About the Sarutahiko Shrine Rice Field Festival

At Sarutahiko Shrine, the Omita Festival, held every year on May 5th, is a Shinto ritual that has been passed down for centuries to pray for a bountiful harvest and abundant fish. ✨

This is a Shinto ritual in which rice seedlings are planted in the rice fields to pray for a bountiful harvest.
The sight of planters dressed in Momoyama period costumes planting seedlings to the accompaniment of Dengaku music evokes the feeling of early summer. (Designated as an Intangible Cultural Property)

After the rice planting, a lively harvest dance is performed as an offering, praying for a bountiful harvest.
