~How to get to Ise Shrine by public transportation~ When traveling to Ise from major metropolitan areas (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Hakata), the Shinkansen is the most popular option. After boarding the Shinkansen, we will suggest recommended transportation options for getting around Ise City's tourist spots, as well as where and how to transfer.

table of contents

The most convenient way to get to Ise Shrine from Tokyo is to take the Shinkansen and Kintetsu Limited Express.
If you take the Shinkansen to Nagoya and then transfer to the Kintetsu Railway, you will arrive at Ise-shi Station* or Ujiyamada Station, the closest stations to Ise Jingu Shrine, in about three hours.
Iseshi Station is lined with shops along the approach to the Geku Shrine, so you can take a detour to the shrine. Ujiyamada Station also has a souvenir shop and plenty of lockers. The station itself is registered as a national tangible cultural property, and the station building is quite tasteful.
To head to the Kintetsu Line smoothly from Nagoya Station, we recommend getting on the Shinkansen near cars 11 to 13!
The cars in that area are close to the "South Exit" stairs leading to the Kintetsu line, making it easy to transfer.
*The nearest station to the Outer Shrine is Iseshi Station, and the nearest station to the Inner Shrine is Isuzugawa Station.
[Route] Tokyo ⇒ Nagoya Station [Shinkansen]─ Kintetsu Nagoya Station [Kintetsu Line] ⇒ Ise City [Kintetsu Limited Express]
All seats on Kintetsu Limited Express trains are reserved seats. In addition to the regular ticket, you will also receive a limited express ticket (reserved seat ticket)You will need a limited express train, which is comfortable and easy to travel on, so I recommend it!

From the Shinkansen platform, exit towards the South Exit.
The easiest way is to go down the stairs between cars 11 and 12.

If you exit at the south exit, you will find the ticket gate for transferring to the Kintetsu Line.
Don't forget to take your ticket when transferring.
*Please note that once you pass through the exit ticket gate, you will not be able to go to the exit connecting to Kintetsu Railway.

Once you pass through the transfer gate, turn right and continue straight down the hallway until you reach the end where you see the sign in the photo.
You will soon come to a dead end, so turn left and go down the stairs at the end to reach the Kintetsu ticket gate.
POINT
・We recommend riding in cars 11 to 13 on the Shinkansen.
・All seats on Kintetsu Limited Express trains are reserved, so you will need an express ticket in addition to your regular ticket. It's easier if you buy one in advance!
・To get to the Kintetsu connecting gate, take the stairs between cars 11 and 12!

From Osaka to Ise, you can easily get there by Kintetsu Limited Express train. It's easy to get to and you can enjoy the feeling of a short trip.
Kintetsu Limited ExpressOsaka Uehommachi, Tsuruhashi, Osaka NambaYou can board from any of these stations, and the journey takes from 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours without transfers. You can comfortably travel to Ise-shi Station or Ujiyamada Station, which are the closest stations to Ise Jingu Shrine.
No matter which station you board from, you can enjoy the scenery along the way and the spacious seats inside the train, and the excitement of starting your journey to Ise.

[Route 3] Shin-Osaka Station ⇒ Osaka Station ⇒ Tanimachi 9-chome Station (Subway Tanimachi Line) - Osaka-Uehonmachi Station (Subway Tanimachi Line connection station, Kintetsu Line) ⇒ Ise City (Kintetsu Limited Express)
After getting off the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka Station, take the stairs or elevator down to the ticket gate floor (concourse floor).
Look at the overhead signs, and if you are transferring to JR, follow the "JR Transfer" signs.
To transfer to JR conventional lines, go in the opposite direction from the Central Exit and pass through the JR Line Transfer Gate.
At this time, your Shinkansen ticket will be returned to you by the automatic ticket gate, so please be careful not to forget to pick it up.
When traveling within Osaka Prefecture, we recommend first traveling from Shin-Osaka to Osaka Station, as there are many trains on the Kobe Line, Takarazuka Line, and Fukuchiyama Line.
There is also a route to Ise that goes via Osaka Station, Tsuruhashi Station, etc.
If you are heading towards Tsuruhashi Station using the Osaka Metro (subway), please follow the signs for the "Midosuji Subway Line."
①How to take the Kintetsu train from Tsuruhashi Station
From JR Shin-Osaka Station, take the local train to JR Osaka Station. From JR Osaka Station, transfer to the JR Loop Line. Get off at JR Tsuruhashi Station and transfer to the Kintetsu Railway.

To transfer from the JR Loop Line to the Kintetsu Line at Tsuruhashi Station, please use the "connecting ticket gate" inside the station. Go through the JR Loop Line ticket gate and walk with your back to the gate, and you will soon see the stairs to the Kintetsu Line.

With your back to the ticket gate, go down the stairs on the left and you will find the Kintetsu Line platform. If you are heading towards Ise-Shima, please proceed to the Kintetsu Osaka Line platform.
②How to take the Kintetsu train from Namba Station
After getting off at Shin-Osaka Station, take the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line.
Transfer to the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line (bound for Tennoji/Nakamozu), get off at Namba, and transfer to the Kintetsu train at Osaka-Namba Station on the Kintetsu Line.
From Namba Station on the Midosuji Line, go through the northwest ticket gate and it's about a one-minute walk to the Kintetsu Line.
*This route is the easiest way to transfer to the Kintetsu Line from Shin-Osaka, but the Midosuji Line is the busiest subway line in Osaka.
*Some Kintetsu Limited Express trains heading towards Ise-Shima depart from Osaka-Uehommachi. If you wish to take an express train departing from Osaka-Uehommachi, you will need to travel by Kintetsu from Osaka-Namba Station to Osaka-Uehommachi Station.
3. How to get on the Kintetsu line from Osaka-Uehommachi Station
If you are taking the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line from JR Osaka Station, it is convenient to head to Osaka-Uehommachi Station.
Take the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line to Higashi-Umeda Station and transfer to the Tennoji/Yaominami line.
After that, get off at Tanimachi 9-chome Station and walk through the underground passage inside the station for about 7 minutes to arrive at Osaka-Uehommachi Station on the Kintetsu Line.
POINT
・After getting off at Shin-Osaka Station, we recommend going to Osaka Station and taking the subway or loop line.
・Kintetsu Limited Express trains depart from both "Osaka Namba" and "Osaka Uehommachi", so be careful of the departure point.
・The Midosuji Line Namba Station route is the easiest route to transfer, but it is a very crowded line, so if you have large luggage, we recommend going via Kyoto Station (see below) or Nagoya Station (see above).

Access to Ise from Kyoto is also good. There is also a Kintetsu Limited Express train that will take you to Ise from Kyoto Station without any transfers!
Getting off the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka Station is the cheapest option, but to transfer to the Kintetsu Railway, you will need to travel to one of Osaka Namba, Osaka Uehommachi, or Tsuruhashi stations within Osaka Prefecture, and some lines can be crowded, so this may be inconvenient for those with large luggage.
For those coming from Hakata or Hiroshima, those with lots of luggage, or those who want to travel compactly, we also recommend routes with transfers at Kyoto Station or Nagoya Station.
(For routes via Nagoya, please also see "Access from Tokyo")
[Route] Kyoto Station (JR Line) - Kyoto Station (Kintetsu Line) -> Ise City (Kintetsu Limited Express)

To head to the Shinkansen Central Gate from the Shinkansen platform, take the escalator down from the platform. The Kintetsu platform is located in front of the Central Gate, making it easy to transfer.

Continue towards the Shinkansen Central Gate.

If you exit the Shinkansen Central Gate and continue straight, you will reach the Kintetsu Line.

This is the Kintetsu ticket gate. When traveling from Kyoto to Ise on the Kintetsu train, you will often need to first board a train bound for Kashiharajingu-mae and then transfer to a train bound for Ise-Shima at Yamato-Yagi Station.

The main stations in Ise City are Iseshi Station (JR/Kintetsu), Ujiyamada Station (Kintetsu), and Isuzugawa Station (Kintetsu). Of these, Iseshi Station is the most commonly used starting point for sightseeing in Ise.
There are three main reasons for this:
①Convenient station with access to both Kintetsu and JR lines
②It is about a 5-minute walk from the JR exit to the Outer Shrine.
3. The Geku Sando (approach to the Geku Shrine) is lined with restaurants and souvenir shops, making it a fun journey.
If you are using Kintetsu, follow the signs from the platform where you got off, and after crossing the overpass you will come out through the JR ticket gate.
When heading to the Outer Shrine, please use the JR exit.
When you arrive at Iseshi Station, please exit from the JR exit."JR and Kintetsu common ticket gate"It has become.

This is the Kintetsu Line platform. If you are heading to the JR side (South Exit/Geku side), follow the signs and head towards the stairs.
*If you are going to accommodations on the Kintetsu side (north exit side), such as Ise City Hotel, please exit through the Kintetsu ticket gate on the right side of the photo.

Go up the stairs. If you have large luggage such as a trunk, please use the elevator at the far left of the stairs.

Go up the stairs and continue straight across the overpass to reach the JR platform.
Once you pass through the ticket gate, the approach to the Geku Shrine will be right in front of you.
*Please be careful when moving around the station as there are no signs indicating "South Exit" or "North Exit"
Please note that if you are coming to the following locations, it is closer to take the exit on the Kintetsu side.
・Ise City Hotel ・Pearl Pier Hotel ・EN Hotel
・Toyota Rent-a-Car Ise Branch ・Times Rent-a-Car Ise Branch ・Hoshidekan
Travel time: Approximately 5 minutes on foot or 2 minutes by bus to the Outer Shrine

After exiting the JR ticket gate at Iseshi Station, you will find the Iseshi Station Tourist Information Center on the right, next to the station's shop. You can make tourist inquiries here.
Cross the traffic light in front of the torii gate in front of Iseshi Station and you will reach the approach to the Geku Shrine.
It takes about 5 minutes to walk from the station square to the Geku Shrine along the Geku approach.
Most people walk to the Geku, but depending on your mobility, you can also take the bus from bus stop in front of the station to "Platform ❿: Bus bound for Naiku-mae" and get to the Geku-mae bus stop in about 2 minutes.

The Ise-shi Station Luggage Storage is located immediately to the left after exiting the JR side of the Ise-shi Station building, directly next to the station building.
There are not many coin lockers at Iseshi Station, so the luggage storage is convenient.
The fee is a flat rate of 600 yen per piece regardless of size, so if you have large luggage, it is best to leave it at the baggage check-in counter.
Please note that the deadline for collecting your luggage is 17:30 PM on the same day. If you plan to collect your luggage at night, please use the coin lockers inside the station.
You can also have your luggage delivered to your accommodation at the baggage storage facility. The fee is 1,150 yen per item if you leave it there until 1:00 PM.
We also offer bicycle rentals (city bicycles and electric bicycles) (for a fee).
Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge to those who request them.
*Prices are as of June 7.6.
Time required: 10 minutes on foot to the Outer Shrine

Ujiyamada Station is just a two-minute train ride from Iseshi Station, and you'll be surprised at how close it is.
It takes about 10 minutes on foot from Ujiyamada Station to the Geku. It is easier for tourists to get to the Geku from Iseshi Station as it is a straight line along the approach to the shrine.
The convenience store inside the station has a wide selection of souvenirs, making it convenient for last-minute shopping!
In addition, since the building itself is a registered tangible cultural property, we recommend that Kintetsu train users take the Kintetsu line from Ujiyamada Station when returning home.

Time required: 25-35 minutes on foot to the Outer Shrine
Isuzugawa Station is the closest station to the Inner Shrine, but please note that it takes 25 to 35 minutes to walk to the Inner Shrine and there are fewer buses than Iseshi Station and Ujiyamada Station.
There are also coin lockers at Isuzugawa Station.
If you are going to Kongosho-ji Temple on Mt. Asakuma, please use Isuzugawa Station, as there is a bus stop for the Sangu bus (which operates only on weekends and holidays) in front of the station.

We recommend taking the bus from Geku to Naiku. Take the bus bound for Naiku at the Geku-mae bus stop (No. 2).
◯Travel time: Usually 15 to 20 minutes ◯Fare: 520 yen one way
Payment by cash, transportation IC card, or bus ticket (purchased at the bus ticket counter at the station) is all accepted.
-In case of cash :
Take a numbered ticket at the boarding gate. Have exact change ready, and insert your money and numbered ticket into the fare adjustment machine at the exit. There is a change machine on the bus (the change machine only accepts 1,000 yen bills).
-For transportation IC cards :
Any IC card can be used to board the bus. Just touch the touch point at the boarding entrance and again at the exit.
-For bus tickets :
You don't need to bring anything special when you get on. When you get off, just insert your bus ticket into the fare adjustment machine. If you have an unlimited ride ticket such as the "Michikusa Ticket," you just need to show your ticket to the driver when you get off.
Popular tourist spots in the Naiku-mae area include Oharaimachi, Okage Yokocho, and Sarutahiko Shrine.
The approximately 800-meter street that runs from the Inner Shrine along the Isuzu River is called "Oharaimachi," and Okage Yokocho, where representative buildings from the Iseji Route from the Edo to Meiji periods have been relocated and recreated, is located in the middle of Oharaimachi.
If your feet aren't too tired, we recommend exploring the area on foot rather than taking the bus.
When traveling from the Outer Shrine to the Inner Shrine, the standard method is to take a bus to the "Inner Shrine" stop.
In addition, the following fares (as of June 7.6) apply to bus stops leading to each tourist spot in the Naiku-mae area.
To visit the Naiku Shrine, get off at the Naiku-mae bus stop (520 yen)
・To get to Okage Yokocho, get off at the bus stop "Jingu Kaikan-mae" (450 yen)
・To get to Sarutahiko Shrine, get off at the "Sarutahiko Shrine" bus stop (380 yen)
*Please note that the Shinto Liner (limited express) does not stop at Jingu Kaikan-mae or Sarutahiko Shrine-mae.
If you take a taxi from the Outer Shrine to the Inner Shrine, the fare will be approximately 2,500 yen per car.
Many people return to the station from the Naiku Shrine.
From the "Naiku-mae" bus stop and "Jingu Kaikan-mae" bus stop, buses (Geku-Naiku circular buses) bound for "Ise-shi Station" and "Ujiyamada Station" depart every 10 to 15 minutes. All lines are stopped international success.
Please use these bus stops to return to the station.
Please note that the bus stop in front of Sarutahiko Shrine varies depending on the bus line you take.
Also, please note that the Shinto Liner (limited express bus) does not stop at Ujiyamada Station, so please be careful when using it.

*The Shinto Liner bound for Ise-shi Station (return trip) from Naiku does not stop at Isuzugawa Station.

When touring Ise, many people visit the shrines in the following order: Ise-shi Station → Geku → Naiku. However, recently, more and more people are choosing to first stop at Futami Okitama Shrine, known for its Meoto Iwa rocks, to perform a purification ritual before heading to the shrine.
You can get to Futami Okitama Shrine from Iseshi Station in two ways:
① [When using JR]

◯Ride time: Approximately 7 to 10 minutes ◯Fare: 210 yen ◯Number of trains: Approximately 2 per hour
access:
Take the JR Sangu Line from JR Iseshi Station to Futaminoura Station, and then walk about 15 minutes from the station to Futami Okitama Shrine.
If you plan to use the JR line without leaving Iseshi Station, please speak to a station attendant at the JR ticket gate to get a round-trip ticket.
*JR Futaminoura Station is an unmanned station, so if you are traveling round trip, it is safer to purchase a round trip ticket at Iseshi Station.
*Transportation IC cards (such as Suica and ICOCA) cannot be used.
*Both Futaminoura Station and Toba Station (JR) are unmanned stations. IC cards cannot be used, so cash (coins and 1000 yen bills) is required.
② [When using CAN bus]
◯Travel time: Approximately 45 minutes ◯Fare: 570 yen ◯Number of trains: 1 per hour

access:
Immediately after leaving the JR exit of Iseshi Station, take the CAN bus (bound for Toba Aquarium) from bus stop ❿ outside the Akafuku shop, and get off at Meotoiwa East Exit (in front of Ise Sea Paradise). The shrine is about a 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
③ [If you use the local bus (line 41)]
◯Travel time: Approximately 26 minutes ◯Fare: 570 yen ◯Number of trains: 4 per day
access:
Board the bus at Iseshi Station (Platform ➑) and get off at Meotoiwa East Exit. The shrine is about a 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
Prioritize timeFor those who want to travel short distances and have many trainsUsing JRIs recommended

Please choose the most convenient method that suits your needs and travel style.
For access to Meotoiwa and Futami, timetables are available at the Iseshi Station Information Center, so please be sure to stop by.
After visiting the Inner Shrine, many people head straight to Futamiura (the Meotoiwa Rocks and Futami Okitama Shrine) or Toba. While you can return to Iseshi Station and take the JR train, it's more convenient to use the CAN bus that departs from in front of the Inner Shrine.
If you are heading towards Futami, when you arrive in the Naiku area, first check the return bus time, then spend some time in Oharaimachi and Okage Yokocho to enjoy sightseeing without wasting time.
When using CAN bus
Journey time: Approximately 45 minutes Fare: 850 yen Number of trains: 1 per hour
Boarding point: Board from [Platform 1] in front of the Naiku Shrine
Nearest bus stop:
If you get off at "Meotoiwa East Exit (in front of Ise Sea Paradise)", it is just a short walk to Futami Okitama Shrine and Meotoiwa.
There are two means of transportation to get from Futami (around Meoto Iwa and Futami Okitama Shrine) towards Toba.
① When using CAN bus
◯Travel time: Approximately 12 minutes ◯Fare: 490 yen ◯Number of trains: 1 per hour
The CAN bus runs once an hour, so it's a good idea to check your boarding time in advance and stroll around Meoto Yokocho before boarding the bus. If you're going to Toba Station, get off at Toba Bus Center.
② When using JR
◯Travel time: Approximately 10 minutes ◯Fare: 210 yen

It takes about 15 minutes to walk from Futami Okitama Shrine and Meoto Iwa Rocks to JR Futaminoura Station. Please factor this walking time into your itinerary. Board the one-man train, take a numbered ticket, and pay the fare at your destination (Toba Station).
If you've never ridden in a one-man train, you can experience the feeling of adventure that only a local train can offer!
*Both Futaminoura Station and Toba Station (JR) are unmanned stations. IC cards cannot be used, so cash (coins and 1000 yen bills) is required.
When using CAN bus
◯Travel time: Approximately 41 minutes ◯Fare: 1050 yen
Boarding point: Board from [Platform 1] in front of the Naiku Shrine
Nearest bus stop:
If you get off at Toba Bus Center, you can take the connecting walkway to Toba Station.

Visiting Ise Shrine and touring Futami and Toba can be made even more comfortable by making good use of buses and trains.
Once you arrive at each destination, it's a good idea to check in advance the return transportation, boarding time, and bus stop locations.
One of the joys of traveling is taking your time to walk around the city and enjoy souvenir shopping!
With a little ingenuity, the journey itself can become a fun memory.
